The mission of the Brandywine Zoo is to professionally exhibit specific species of animals and provide a comprehensive program of conservation, education and recreation for the citizens of the State of Delaware and the Brandywine Valley.
Conservation, protecting wildlife and preservation of the species are primary areas of concentration for most zoos around the country. The Brandywine Zoo actively supports these efforts with unique programs of our own.
At the core of every AZA-accredited zoo and aquarium is the commitment to engage the public in significant conservation education programs. Over the past ten years, AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums have trained more than 400,000 teachers with award-winning, proven science curricula. In addition, AZA organizations educate more than 12,000,000 students every year in the classroom or in the field!
Following this lead, the mission of our Education Programs is to enhance and enrich peoples' understanding of and respect for the complex relationships among all living things and to inspire wildlife conservation. All of our education programs and events are designed to meet this mission.
As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the Brandywine Zoo incorporates many of AZA's conservation messages into our Education Programs.
