Welcome to the

Brandywine Zoo!

The Brandywine Zoo is less than five acres and located in Wilmington, Delaware, along the Brandywine River in beautiful Brandywine Park. The Zoo is open 10am to 4pm (last admission at 3:30pm). The Brandywine Zoo is managed by the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation with the support of the Delaware Zoological Society. The Brandywine Zoo is a member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums and is one of over 240 accredited zoos and aquariums in North America, a distinction that marks its commitment to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for the visitor, and a better future for all living things.

Digital Media Internship

Application closes on December 20, 2025 at 12pm ET

The Brandywine Zoo is excited to announce that the application for its first ever Digital Media Internship is now live! The internship is open to all recent college graduates, college students, and high school students with a passion for the Zoo and its conservation mission.

Zoo Year's Eve

Wednesday, December 31, 10am-2pm

Celebrate New Year’s Eve early in the day with a group countdown and sparkling apple cider! Due to the popularity of this event, there will be two time slots.The first time slot: 10-11am (Ball Drop at 11am) and the second time slot: 12-1pm (Ball Drop at 1pm)

The zoo will open at 10am and close at 2pm. This program takes place outside, so dress for the weather! Some animals may not be out because of the cold weather. Lucky Shot Coffee will have coffee available for purchase.

First Day Hikes​

Thursday, January 1, 10-11am

Ring in the New Year by joining the national First Day Hike movement with a guided hike through Brandywine Park, led by staff from the Brandywine Zoo’s Conservation Science and Learning team! Learn about the history of the park and the zoo, and the many ways that you can make conservation action a new year’s resolution that’s easy to keep.

Although this guided hike is free, pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Email [email protected] to register.

Rest & Revelry Trivia Night

Saturday, January 10, 5:30-7:30pm

Start the new year with a creature challenge! Join us for a 21 and up trivia night at the zoo. Test your knowledge about the animal world’s restful winters and rowdy play times. Plus, meet some of Brandywine Zoo’s ambassador animals up close. Drinks and snacks will be provided. The winning team will bring home a special prize and trophy!

Storytime Series: Animals in Winter

Sundays, January 11 – February 22, 10:30-11am

Join Zoo educators at our Education Building for a special Storytime series! Each week will feature a different storybook reading about animals in winter and corresponding activity, such as a movement game, craft, or meeting an animal ambassador that lives behind the scenes. This program is designed for toddlers/preschool-aged children and their families. Each person attending requires a program ticket, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited.

Birds & Bees Trivia Night

Friday, February 20 & Saturday, February 21, 5:30-7:30pm

Singles and sweethearts 21 and up are invited to test your knowledge about mating, dating, and reproduction in the animal world. Plus, meet some of Brandywine Zoo’s ambassador animals up close.

Drinks and snacks will be provided. The team with the most knowledge about ‘the birds and the bees’ will bring home a special trophy!

Adopt a Red Panda for someone special.

THROUGH DECEMBER 15

For only $70, you will receive:

  • A certificate of adoption
  • A fact sheet about real red pandas
  • 2 admission passes to the Zoo
  • Your choice of an adorable plush Red Panda or a Red Panda Ornament
