Reign, the female crowned lemur born at Brandywine Zoo on August 1, 2023, has gone off to make her own family. She is now at Duke Lemur Center in Durham, NC. Reign was paired with a male named Hapi through a managed studbook program through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The two have already been observed grooming each other. In Madagascar it is typical for females to leave their family groups after 2-3 years to start their own family. Only 11 facilities house this species in the United States. This is a huge success for the future of this species. We wish Reign the best of luck and are proud to be a part of contributing to this program.

A long time Brandywine Zoo resident, Andean Condor Chavín, has moved to the National Aviary as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums-led Species Survival Plan® (SSP). He’ll be missed by our staff and guests, but we wish him the best at his new home.
